He joined the Scuderia at the end of 2003 and originally worked on its test team, before being promoted to Massa's race engineer in 2006.

Following ten seasons at F1's most successful outfit, he has decided to move to Williams in the newly created head of vehicle performance role, which the team says will "strengthen the trackside team whilst also supporting the development work back at the factory to help bring more performance to the car throughout the season."

He will officially join the team prior to April's Bahrain Grand Prix and will be supported by Massa's race engineer Andrew Murdoch and Jonathan Eddolls, who will continue to work with Valtteri Bottas this season.

The Grove-based outfit has hired a number of new team members over the off-season and looks in fine form. The FW36 proved to be reliable at the first two winter tests, and a number of new sponsors have been announced - with another big partnership expected soon.

Richard Lockwood has also joined the team from Marussia as head of race strategy.

"Williams is undergoing change and these new appointments reflect how high our ambitions are," said chief technical officer Pat Symonds, who joined the team last summer.

"We have a number of senior people joining us to assist us in the pursuit of those ambitions and I am extremely excited to welcome them on-board. 2014 gives us the biggest change to the technical regulations that I have seen in my career, and so it will be important to add further depth to the talent we already have here as we head into the new season.

"Williams has always prided itself on engineering excellence and this latest announcement is part of our continued goal to bring success back to the team."
