Grosjean wins Race of Champions

Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean has won the Race of Champions event, held in Bangkok Thailand.
The Frenchman was competing in his second Race of Champion's. The motorsport event took place in the Rajamangala Stadium, on a circuit with two parallel tracks and a crossover bridge. The four lap race means when the cars cross the line for the second time they have completed a full circuit.

Grosjean had a roller coaster 2012 season in Formula 1, returning to the sport after a year of GP2. It was his second stint in F1, his first coming in 2009. However a difficult and erratic series of races meant he was not retained.

Lotus brought Romain back to Enstone for 2012, a controversial driver signing. He proved to be a strong contender in Qualifying, but got involved in first lap scraps too often. Despite the lows of the season, in particular the Belgian GP start crash and race ban, he scored three podiums and finished the season with 96 points, eighth in the drivers championship.

Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher took the Nations Cup Title for Team Germany on Saturday in Thailand, with Team Nordic finishing runner up.

However both German drivers could not replicate the success on Sunday. Vettel touched the wall in the fragile but speedy KTM X-Bow. This damaged the rear of the car and meant he failed to progress through to the quarter finals. Schumacher narrowly missed out on the final, losing out to Grosjean in a dramatic heat.

Romain went up against Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen in two heats, the deciding one saw both battle in the fan favourite KTM X-Bow. It was the orange machine of Grosjean that came out on top, the third heat not being needed to decide the crown.

Meanwhile British racers David Coulthard and Andy Priaulx were knocked out in the quarter and semi-finals respectively, the latter suffering a big spin and crash in the Lamborghini Gallardo.

He became the second Frenchman in a row to be crowned "Champion of Champions" after Sebastian Ogier's victory in 2011. Romain has yet to be confirmed as a 2013 driver but this win will certainly help his cause.
